How did you get into developing apps?

Pascal Bestebroer from OrangePixel:

I started OrangePixel about 5 years ago, and have been developing mobile games, on the Java platform, since then. Android is simply the next step. The development language is basically the same, but Android adds alot of extra power and options to what you can do with games and applications.

What was your inspiration for developing this app?

Pascal Bestebroer from OrangePixel:

The game is based on one of my old Java mobile games, where you used a single button to shoot the Toddler into space, and then use that same button to jump on clouds, angels, etc. The whole one-button gameplay thing was really the hype at that time.. but for Android we wanted to use very Android-specific controls like the shaking, tilting, etc. The result is: Toddlers – Shake it!

How long did it take to develop the app?

Pascal Bestebroer from OrangePixel:

It took some time to get the gameplay right, but once that was in place I guess it took a couple of weeks to get everything ready for a first version release. We did need some time to tweak the shaking and tilting so that it was playable by anyone (even your grandma can play this game!).

Are there any hidden features to the app?

Pascal Bestebroer from OrangePixel:

All the achievements are sort of hidden, until you figure out how to unlock them ;) And future updates will bring many hidden extra’s to unlock, see next question for that.

Do you have any future plans for this app?

Pascal Bestebroer from OrangePixel:

We have lots and lots of ideas that we will be pushing into the game!. Many different unlockable characters (shoot a Michael Jackson toddler into space!) and also new environments to shoot your Toddlers from, and other ways to keep your toddlers in the air as long as possible.

So the first version is really a platform that we want to continue to build upon. Adding new chapters to the game and hopefully keeping the gamers satisfied with new challenges after every update!

Do you plan to develop any new apps? If so when can we expect to see them in the Market?

Pascal Bestebroer from OrangePixel:

Our main focus is on the Android platform, so we will be releasing much more games for it. Currently we have six games on the Android market and two more games in development, one is close to finished and is called Firby. A very cutesy little platform game, where you have to collect key’s, fruit, and diamonds while avoiding the various monsters, spikes, etc.

And another game we are also working on is a sort of casual RPG. With quests that take only a couple of minutes at most, and computer generated dungeon’s. The work on that is still very early, but it’s already getting to a playable state. The working title is Pocket Dungeon, so keep an eye out for that and follow us on twitter @orangepixel for any official news.
