How did you get into developing apps?

StemBrainSoftware:

I retired from IBM (after 40 years) just when smartphones were just starting to take off, driven by the IPHONEs. I did a fair amount of programming in the company, so I thought I could create applications that were unique, fun and easy to use. I began to investigate what Google was up to and decided to go the android open systems path versus the closed Apple approach.

What was your inspiration for developing this app?

StemBrainSoftware:

I have always been interested in voice recognition. Being able to couple that with translation and text to speech was perfect. Once voice recognition goes beyond English phrases, a fully conversational translator can be offered (already in my code, just waiting for google!).

How long did it take to develop the app?

StemBrainSoftware:

I used a base set of code from another of my applications (TalkTeMe) which shortened the development cycle. Given that, the development time was 30 days.

Do you have any future plans for this app?

StemBrainSoftware:

Yes, continue to enhance the voice user interface and activate full conversational translation services once Google releases more languages for voice recognition engine.

Do you plan to develop any new apps? If so when can we expect to see them in the Market?

StemBrainSoftware:

Yes, I currently have six applications in the market. Jogger, Ear Cam, Remind, Cartube, TalkTeMe and Tungs. I have a backlog of application ideas across all categories of the market. My plan is to have at least one application in each of the categories to be ready for the wave of new smartphone users expected between now and 2012. Expect about 1 new application from me every two months.
