How did you get into developing apps?

Senygma Inc.:

Before developing on the Android platform, Senygma Inc. started developing on the iPhone about 3 months before the iTunes App Store even opened, which was about a year and a half ago. We had many ideas that we liked for many years, but the Palm Pilot and cell phones of the times, really couldn’t fit the applications we were trying to accomplish, due to the lack of capabilities needed to have a proper golf application (touchscreen, GPS, Internet, access to saving large amounts of information, etc). Once Google opened their Android Market, they contacted us to invite us to develop for their app store. At that time GolfCard was #1 in the sports category on the iTunes store.

What was your inspiration for developing this app?

Senygma Inc.:

Golfing is one of those things that can really benefit from a mobile device. Every golfer wants to know exactly how far away they are from the flag. They want to see what the path looks like from a satellite image, since they may not be able to see over hills or around corners. Also, paper score cards can really get cluttered in your golf bag, and a stack of paper score cards is not really an efficient way to track golfing stats.

How long did it take to develop the app?

Senygma Inc.:

GolfCard has been under constant development for a year and a half, we try to release great new features every month. The first version took about 3 months to develop, and we have released 14 more major versions since then, each with much better features and usability.

Are there any hidden features to the app?

Senygma Inc.:

No easter eggs exist at the moment, but users are always amazed at all the features they find over time. Some didn’t even release there was a range finder, until they accidentally tap on a hole number on the score card screen, and surprise… a satellite image of the the hole. Tap on a player name and see a great collection of stats for the round.

Do you have any future plans for this app?

Senygma Inc.:

We have over 1000 features that we will be putting into golfcard over time. They all come from customer suggestions, and as we collect them, we prioritize them. Each of our releases is based on that prioritized list. Essentially GolfCard is 100% customer driven.

Do you plan to develop any new apps? If so when can we expect to see them in the Market?

Senygma Inc.:

We are in final talks for the rights to do the exclusive development of the official Rubik’s cube app for both the iPhone and Android. This is based on an app that we had done last year, called xCube. Hasbro, Seven Towns (owner of the Rubik’s cube copyright), and Magmic (owner of the Rubik’s cube license for mobile phones) recognized it’s potential, so we are taking over the Rubik’s cube development. We are shooting for a holiday release, but we have not determined that yet.
