Android App Review Source:

How did you get into developing apps?

JJCgames:

It was pretty much an accident. About a year ago I managed to destroy my old phone in an unfortunate incident with a bottle of water. I went looking for a new phone and the G1 had just come out, so I got one. I loved it, but there were a couple of things I wanted that didn’t exist yet, so I made a simple Twitter notifying app (nanoTweeter) and another app for linking up the Android music player with Last.fm (Scrobble Droid). I’d always wanted to make games, though, and when I heard that paid apps were launching on the Market, I thought I’d give it a go and make an Android game in time for the launch.

What was your inspiration for developing this app?

JJCgames:

I’d heard about air hockey games on other touchscreen phones, and I thought it was a very appealing idea!

How long did it take to develop the app?

JJCgames:

I started just after Christmas last year, and paid apps launched on February 20th, so nearly two months.

Are there any hidden features to the app?

JJCgames:

The game gives the player a skill level, which increases or decreases depending on how well you do when playing. The highest level in the game is 1000. It’s very difficult to get there, but because of the way the scoring works it’s a lot easier if you play best-of-7 matches. If you play single games then to get to level 1000 you have to play a perfect game and win 7 points to 0 against the toughest level of computer player. I’ve never managed it!

Do you have any future plans for this app?

JJCgames:

The new 2.0 version of Android (Eclair) is very exciting, because it includes multitouch and Bluetooth support. I just released an update for Air Hockey which has a multitouch two-player mode that works on the Motorola Droid. I’m going to investigate adding a Bluetooth mode as well, but that will take a while. I’m always happy to hear other ideas from players.

Do you plan to develop any new apps? If so when can we expect to see them in the Market?

JJCgames:

I’m working on another game right now. It’s not ready to show yet, but I’m excited about it. Hopefully it will be on the Market early next year. Follow the JJCgames Twitter for updates:
